Michael Grubb Studio is an award-winning design practice delivering innovative and creative lighting solutions. Based in Bournemouth (UK) but with clients across the world, their work spans all areas of lighting design, from masterplanning and public realm to retail and events.
We were approached by Creative Directors Michael and Stuart to refresh their visual identity, including the creation of a new logomark featuring the studio's full name, replacing their previous enigmatic MGS initialism. The new mark is bold, confident and agile, reflecting the studio's practice and creative approach to projects.
The logomark is set in MGS Display, a bespoke typeface created for the studio. Using their previous abstract logo as a foundation, the refined character set is based on lettering from the Bauhaus. The font consists of a lowercase set, numbers and a range of glyphs.
The idiosyncratic typography is used on a variety of outputs, capturing their creative ideology with messaging across pitches and showreels.
